PUBLISHER’S NOTES
By Tom Boyles | PMQ’s PIzza Australia
And so we begin a
new year. With it
come concerns
about the volatile and
changing economy not just
in Australia, but around
the globe. Changes in the
value of the Australian
dollar, commodities and
the general worry with
consumers are creating
many sleepless nights for business owners.
It’s because of this I spent quite a bit of time
talking with the PMQ contributors and others
in restaurant industry to get their outlook and
opinions about what restaurant owners can
expect in 2009.
In this issue you will find articles by George
Carrageorge, Mitch Ireaci, and Brandon Farrell
where they discuss commodities forecast, how
cutting corners to save money can be the kiss
of death and how to keep your nerve in an
economic downturn. We hope these articles
will not only give you an idea of what pricing
may do in 2009, but also offer some support
and advice that will allow you to get a little
more peace of mind and sleep at night.
In this issue we also have a main feature
on the topic of ovens. In this article you will
learn a little more about the pros and cons
of the different styles of ovens, how to go
about purchasing new and used ovens and the
importance of a regular maintenance schedule.
If you are considering an oven purchase we
recommend contacting some of the suppliers
quoted in the article. Each contributor to this
article has different areas of expertise and said
they would be more than happy to discuss any
questions you may have.
As always, if there is any question you have
about this issue we encourage you to contact
us at tom@pmqaustralia.com. Good luck in the
new year.
Thank you,

Tom Boyles
