Tom BoylesPublisher's Notes
By Tom Boyles | PMQ's PIzza Australia

Just a few weeks ago a new Best of the Best winner was crowned by Dairy Farmers at the Fine Foods Show in Melbourne. Unfortunately, this issue of PMQ’s Pizza Australia went to press before we knew who the winner was. If you would like to find out who the winner is you can find out by waiting for the December/January issue or log into www.PMQAustralia.com and click on “News Room.” We will also be sending out the announcement in our email newsletter. If you want to keep up with all the latest happenings in the Australian pizza market, go to www.pizzanews.com.au and register to receive the official PMQ Pizza Newsletters…and don’t worry because we don’t send junk email or share our list.

Moving along, we have a great issue this month. We want to start the issue by welcoming our new advertising supporters. Some new names you will see in this issue are Burek, Commercial Food Machinery (CFM), Heinz, Teve Packaging and Viva Pasta. You can learn more about many of these companies and the products they offer by perusing the Products Showcases section beginning on page 20. It’s the support of these new companies and our longtime advertisers that make PMQ’s Pizza Australia possible, so when you ring them up be sure to let them know where you saw and learned about them…right here in Australia’s oldest and best pizza business magazine: PMQ’s Pizza Australia.

Speaking of the business of running your business, this issue also features some new editorial contributors to help you. Morel Hudson of Hornet Marketing offers us a fresh look at modern marketing in his article on page 34. In this article he discusses how Google and the Internet have changed the ways businesses sell their products. On page 32, Matthew Hart (Director at BBS, a Brisbane-based communications, public relations and business advisory consultancy) offers tips and advice on how to train and manage problems that can quickly become public relations nightmares if not dealt with properly.

Our regular contributors once again serve us a great line up of articles. Stephen Millar continues the second part of his series on how to control the coupon monster on page 12. Brandon Farrell addresses the problems of delivery on page 16. In his article he tells how he cut delivery times down, addressed the problem of finding drivers and increased sales with a few tweaks to his delivery process. Darrel Vecchio begins the first of a series on pasta on page 30. After discussing the topic with him, we decided to do a large scale coverage on pasta in the December/January issue so we could cover all aspects, so be watching for that in the next issue.

There have been a lot of big things happening in the Australian pizza market. If you haven’t heard by now, Eagle Boys has acquired the Pizza Haven franchise system. You can learn more about that and about the expansion of Hell Pizza into Australia along with an update on Pizza Capers growth. So sit back, turn off the tellie and get ready for another exciting issue of PMQ’s Pizza Australia.

Thank you,
Tom Boyles
